A simple weekly planning rhythm for founders

Most founders do not need a complicated planning system. They need a simple rhythm they can repeat every week, one that keeps priorities clear and keeps work from piling up on their plate.

The weekly rhythm

A weekly planning rhythm works because it is short, repeatable, and honest about what you can actually finish. Set aside thirty minutes at the same time each week and walk through three steps.

  • Review what you finished last week and what is still open.
  • Choose the three priorities that matter most this week.
  • Move everything else to a holding list so it stops competing for your attention.

Why three priorities

Three priorities is enough to make real progress and few enough to stay honest. When everything is a priority, nothing is. A short list forces you to decide what actually matters this week.

A calm week is not a week with nothing on it. It is a week where you know what matters and you have let go of the rest.

Keep it visible

Put your three priorities somewhere your whole team can see them. When everyone knows the priorities, they can make better decisions without checking with you first. That is how a planning rhythm becomes a capacity rhythm.
