Three metrics that tell you if your operations are working

You do not need a complex dashboard to know if your operations are working. Three simple metrics, checked on purpose once a month, will tell you most of what you need to know.

1. How much runs through you

Track how many decisions in a week came back to you that someone else could have made. If that number is growing, your operations are not scaling with your business. If it is shrinking, you are building capacity.

2. How often work slips

Count the deadlines or handoffs that slipped in the last month. A slip now and then is normal. A pattern of slips means work is scattered and no one owns the timeline.

Metrics do not fix operations. They show you where to look. The fix is always a clearer owner and a clearer process.

3. How fast a new lead hears from you

Measure the time between a new lead arriving and a real reply going out. When follow-up depends on you remembering, this number grows the moment client work gets busy. A system that follows up for you keeps this number steady.

Check them monthly

Look at these three metrics once a month, not every day. The goal is not to watch numbers constantly. The goal is to notice the pattern early and adjust the system before it becomes a crisis.
